Low vs Diamond

  • Kevin Bronson from the Los Angeles Times explains it best writing that the band "stands precipitously between overwrought melancholy and chimey hopefulness, avoiding both excesses" the band's music plays to an optimism that stops short of outright glee.

Barcelona

  • What began as a solo project two years ago has matured into the four-piece piano-driven, melodic, indie rock machine of Barcelona.

After recording his solo debut Safety Songs, an up-and-coming Seattle singer/songwriter Brian Fennell (vocals, keyboards) assembled a band for a short tour including his childhood friend Brian Eichelberger - a classically trained violinist who self-taught bass - and college buddies Chris Bristol (Guitar) and Rhett Stonelake (drums).

As the chemistry clicked and the sound evolved, Fennell realized his musical ambitions were best suited to a band, and Barcelona was born.

Attracting the attention of A&R execs, the band did the song and dance of major label showcases but became restless and ultimately returned to Seattle to refocus their attention on songwriting for a debut disc to be released on their own label, NBD Music.

Using "Numb," "Response," and "Colors" - three tracks from Fennell's solo disc Safety Songs - as the anchor, Barcelona crafted a new batch of piano-based melodic songs led by Fennell's soaring vocals that would become absolutes.

During the recording, the band was courted by renowned publishing heavyweight Warner Chappell to an exclusive co-publishing deal that helped secure distribution for the disc through Curb Appeal Records.

Now, with their first full-length album under their belts, Barcelona will hit the road to showcase the new songs for the fan base they've built on the west coast, and beyond.

Paper Route

  • PAPER ROUTE:://:: (as told by Chad Howat) I was tired. There was just this lingering sense of exhaustion in the summer of 2004. I was tired of false starts. Tired of dreaming. Tired of being jaded. Tired of being tired. So it seems fitting that this story begins underneath my bed. You may picture me crawling below my mattress, but in reality my bed is about 6 feet above the ground-enough space for a small iBook and some cheap monitors. When I couldn't sleep, I'd descend my steps and make music all night. Some bands have LSD, others have cocaine, and our drug of choice seemed to be insomnia. I programmed, played bass, synths and even snuck into an undisclosed location masquerading as a music student to record piano. JT Daly, a close friend and old band mate, started coming over to sing, sample, and play toy keyboards. We had always wanted to do a project together and finally it was becoming a reality. After a month or so went by, Andy Smith, another close friend and ex-band mate who lives above me, started coming downstairs and contributing vocals, guitar, harmonica, and some synths. A band had naturally formed between the three of us and we were making music together, once again.

After releasing two EP's, we began preparing to perform the songs live. Long time friend and drummer Gavin McDonald joined us and we played shows across the North East and Mid-Western states. We recorded bits and pieces and released what we thought was the best. We spent far too much time working and not enough time with our loved ones. We read as much as we could and wrote more.

So its 2008 and these EP's are what we have to show for the sleepless nights. We hope that you enjoy them as much as we've enjoyed creating them.

Rami Dearest and the Hot Cops

  • Rami Dearest may just be your favorite song writer. But most likley, you don't know it yet. Former front man of LA based Something For Rockets, and son of world renound violinist, Itzhak Perlman, Rami has been writing songs since he was just a young tot growing up in New York City. His band Something For Rockets toured extensively and put out two fantastic records, the second of which was produced by former Blink 182 front man, Mark Hoppus.

In his first solo offering, Rami combines sixties pop songwriting mixed with soulful crooning harkening back to the sound of classic Motown. Rami calls his style, "Indie-pop-soul". Joined by producers Mike Fratantuno (black eyed peas) and Tom Biller (Fiona Apple, Kanye west, John Brion), Rami is throwing down the gauntlet with his mixture of ponient lyrics and undeniable melodies. If you like Spoon, Jamie Lidell, Guided by Voices, Elliot Smith, The Strokes, and or The Beatles, then you will definitely be feeling Rami Dearest.
