A Place To Bury Strangers

  • Drawing inspiration from shoegaze, classic indie rock, and atmospheric and dark sounds of all stripes, the Brooklyn-based trio A Place to Bury Strangers consists of Oliver Ackermann, Jay Space, and Jono Mofo. Forming out of the ashes of the like-minded Skywave, A Place to Bury Strangers has a darker, slightly heavier and more experimental approach than its previous incarnation. The band made a splash in 2006, recording and playing gigs with Read Yellow, Bravo Silva, the Funeral Crashers, and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide

Crystal Antlers

  • Crystal Antlers look like outcasts from six different bands, and at various points on this record, they sound like it, too. Merging lo-fi, psych, garage, and everything in between, their debut EP is an unorthodox summer record-- not so much for driving to the beach as actually being in its sweltering grasp, equal parts scorched earth and wide open spaces. Though it's tempting to pass this disc off as a stopgap on the way to a triumphant long-player, there's enough triumph packed into its 25 minutes to qualify as one of the year's most promising debuts. Plus, you know what they say about always leaving them wanting more. Best New Music, Pitchfork

All The Saints

  • "GET PSYCHED: Alabama-born, Atlanta-based All the Saints' new album, "Fire on Corridor X," is a brutally pounding psychedelic assault that recalls Spacemen 3, but the production of Grammy-nominated producer Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley) keeps the shattering rock haze from sounding too drug-damaged. It's the band's songcraft that really puts this one in the win column. Without those hooks, it would just be a lovely, sludgy swirl. Instead, it's one of the best local albums of the year so far. It's a monster. With Zoroaster, Predator, Hell Comes to Town."
