Imagine yourself on a quiet rooftop at dusk. The city is sprawled out below, tucked into the night. Summer is drifting away, and there’s a feeling of sweet nostalgia lingering in the air. The sentiments abounding aren’t heartbreak or loss, but salutations to fading moments you’ll never get back. These are the emotions emanating from Joseph King and The Mad Crush’s debut EP, I Miss Everything.

I Miss Everything is the sophomore release from songwriter and frontman Joseph King. The Brooklyn-based artist is known for his unique songwriting and musical style, an amalgam of sincere, and sometimes quirky pop songs with pent-up indie rock edginess, surf rock undertones, and late 60’s throwback pop sensibilities.

The project is billed Joseph King and The Mad Crush, and it’s a fully realized manifestation of Joseph’s songwriting. I Miss Everything is a lush band effort, featuring a soundscape of moody organs and gritty ‘verbed out guitars, smoky yet smooth vocals, and grooves that vary from full-on surf rock to Doors-esque hypnotic vamping. Previously, Joseph has toured and recorded with Canvas (Austin, TX), Deadbeat Darling (New York, NY), and, in 2014, issued an elegantly essential solo debut, Wanderlusting.

This latest EP was recorded in studios and bedrooms across Brooklyn, as well as a few late night sessions on a ranch in the middle of nowhere Texas. The album is produced by Joseph, and co-produced by Mad Crush drummer Will Whatley and fellow Brooklyn musician and friend John Paul Frank. Joseph is joined on this album by his long time and now permanent band, featuring Will Whatley, drums, Dan Hyde, keys, and Taryn Chory, backing vocals.
Teen Commandments
Teen Commandments
Teen Commandments are best friends from Brooklyn who throw parties, collect synthesizers and worship at the altar of pop music. According to NYLON, "Teen Commandments transport you to another, more fun world full of late nights and dance parties– more like an '80s meets 2016 dream world, more rainbow and groovy than anything that could exist in real life." Teen Commandments' upcoming synth pop musical, Burn All Night, will premier in August at Boston's renowned Oberon theater. Their sophomore EP, Party Talk, will be released in fall 2017.
Idgy Dean
Idgy Dean
Idgy Dean was one of the 70 hand-picked artists from around the world to attend the Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal this past fall, where she participated in two weeks of mentoring lectures and studio workshops with musical luminaries including Björk, Pauline Oliveros, Susan Rogers, Jam & Lewis, Deradoorian, tUnE-yArDs, Dev Hynes, Thundercat, Dorian Concept, and Matias Aguayo. She just released her new EP Heavy Cosmic Lumber on the Summer Solstice, June 21, 2017. It was tracked and engineered at Red Bull Studios here in New York over the winter, and they released this live video/piece recorded there a few months back. She is a self-taught one-woman queer feminist yogi psych rocker who writes all of her own material, and plays all of the instruments both on record and live onstage (via looping). She had her TV debut last year on The Chris Gethard Show, plus a few song placements, including this Dell commercial and Vetra Sunscreen spot. Her press highlights include a feature on NPR's WNYC Soundcheck, Tom Tom Magazine, Noisey, The Village Voice, and Refinery 29. She recently opened for Thundercat and Dorian Concept, and will be touring the west coast later this summer, and Europe in October.
