Owen Pallett named his violin-looping live project Final Fantasy, as a tribute to the unending series of operatic video games. Owen has written string and orchestral arrangements for numerous releases, including Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible, Grizzly Bear’s Yellow House and Beirut’s The Flying Club Cup. In this past year alone, he wrote orchestral or string parts for new albums by Pet Shop Boys, Mika and the Mountain Goats.

The third Final Fantasy full-length Heartland is a fully orchestral record, designed to exist simultaneously as an album, a 45-minute piece of orchestral music and a set of songs for looped violin and voice. Heartland will be released by Domino on January 12, 2010.

Avi Buffalo started recording songs during his sophomore year in high school, amidst the deterioration of his first band, Monogram(Dylan Wood of Time of Wolves, 60 Watt Kid). After being asked to play a show by Bill Cutts of Outsider Folk, Avi got together some friends to play an acoustic set at the Zephyr Cafe in Long Beach. With the summer time and a local fall music festival approaching, a full electric band was in order. The band was asked to play in Los Angeles, and did, and kept doing it! A year later, Avi and Aaron Embry(Amnion) began recording the songs that would become the band’s first record.
